I know that it is almost impossible for most non-Koreans to pronounce my name correctly (i.e. as it is pronounced in Korea) at first sight, so I really don't mind how you pronounce it. In other words, you can be my friend without reading this. If you are still interested in this topic anyway, let's go on.

1. The Tae sounds like the te of technology. (This part is easy.)

2. The Yang almost rhymes with yard, but not quite. Yard has a long vowel, but Yang doesn't. (Actually, almost all vowels in modern Korean are short.)

3. Finally, the Kim, which is the most popular last name in Korea. In Korea, the ki in Kim is pronounced like the gi of gigabyte. So it may be better to write it as Gim, but for historical reasons, it is standard to write it as Kim, and generally pronounced as Kim by English speakers. Not all Koreans agree with me, but in my case, I prefer it to be pronounced as Gim if you don't mind.

3. 마지막으로, 한국에서 가장 흔한 성인 '김'의 차례. 한국에서는 '김'의 앞부분('기')을 '기가바이트'의 '기'처럼 발음합니다. 그러므로 Gim이라고 표기하는 게 나을 수도 있겠지만, 역사적인 이유로 인해 Kim으로 표기하는 게 표준이며, 영어권 화자들은 일반적으로 이를 '킴'으로 발음합니다. 이를 (외국인들이) 어떻게 발음해야 할지에 대해 제 의견에 동의하지 않는 한국인들도 있습니다만, 저는 제 성이 '김'으로 발음되기를 바랍니다.
